This is how Slack Works

Below we show you the steps to learn to use this tool. Go to the Play Store, take the app, and adhere to these instructions:

Start

After downloading, log in to your channel if you have already created it. If not, create one, or join an active channel. Next, complete your profile so other members can get to know you.

Edit profile

In the ‘Profile’ tab, indicate your name, occupation, phone number, and time zone you are in. Then, upload a photo. The time zone information is vital if you work with collaborators from foreign countries. You can also:

•      Update statuses

•      Manage notifications

•      Show your preferences

•      Verify downloads

•      Disconnect

With this information, you will build a fairly complete profile.

Start communicating

To start sending messages, go to the upper left corner and activate the corresponding icon. A screen will appear where you will specify who you will write to. In the ‘To’ section, you will find who you can write to and the active channels.

Use the Slack app

If you are going to address someone in particular, you can write them a direct message. If the message is addressed to everyone, go to the channel, report the news, and send it. You can attach files or add emojis. This way, you will create a message with personality.

Open a channel

At Insiderbits, we want Slack to be your great ally when working as a team. To create your workspace after registering, enter ‘First steps,’ where they will tell you the process to follow.

After giving your team a name, you must indicate what project you are working on. Next, mark the emails of those people you are going to contact and press ‘Invite.’ Once this step is completed, your group is ready to start.

When you go to add members, look for the name you gave your team in the upper left area. When deployed, you will be able to invite new people, create new channels, make settings, manage tools, or exit the application.

Other downloads

At Insiderbits, we give you alternatives with which you can be more productive. In the case of Slack, there are versions for both Mac and Windows. Let’s see how to use it in the latter, the most popular browser. You will find both the web and desktop versions.

Once you have downloaded the desktop version, you must activate the SlackSetup.exe installer. The downside to the web version is that you have to keep the tab open. Otherwise, closing it will stop receiving notifications and appear offline to your other colleagues.

With the desktop version, even if you minimize the application, you will continue to receive notifications in the background. So it will not interfere with the work you are doing. Additionally, you can preview messages or customize notifications. There are a variety of sounds to alert you of the arrival of a new message.

Convenience and productivity

At Insiderbits, we know that this beginner’s guide will help you a lot when using the Slack app for the first time. You will even see that you can connect different tools that will facilitate your workflow. We hope that from now on, your productivity will increase.

By the way, if teleworking is your thing, we recommend this post, where you will learn about seven sites to find remote work in the United States. Work from home and earn money without leaving there, performing the new way of working in the 21st century.
