Watching movies and TV shows online has become a part of our lives ever since the rise of OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more. However, there are too many of them with each offering a unique set of collections.

The problem is that it is not affordable for many to buy a subscription to different OTT services at a time. And, having them also means fighting with the temptation to binge-watch your favorite movies or TV series which is a time waster for many.

Thus, for some, it is better to rent or buy movies as they come. This ensures that you don’t have to buy a subscription to underutilize it by watching just a few movies or overutilize it by binge-watching. But the question is where to rent or buy movies?

Google is the solution. It offers you an amazing platform to discover, rent, and watch almost any movie you like. Let us at Insiderbits show you how you can do so.

Google TV: App Overview and Features

Google’s movie renting business was earlier integrated into the Google Play Store. In other words, Google Play Store had a dedicated section of movies and TV shows (called Play Movies & TV) just like those for the apps, games, and books.

However, Google announced that it will discontinue Play Movies & TV from May 2022 onwards and launch a dedicated app called Google TV that will be more personalized and convenient.

Play Movies & TV acted only as a gateway to buy or rent movies and TV shows and a  built-in video player – nothing more, nothing less. Google TV is much more suited to modern needs with many of its advancements over its predecessor.

Features of Google TV

  1. Discover your next watch

Google TV lets you browse over 700 thousand movies and TV shows across various streaming apps so you find out where your favorite title is.

All of them are organized by topics and genres and you will get recommendations based on what you love and what’s trending.

  1. Add favorites to the Watchlist

Whatever you find worth watching can be added to your Watchlist. It will be shared across devices where you have logged in. Thus, no matter where you are accessing Google TV, it allows you to add more titles to your Watchlist from there.

  1. Buy or rent the latest releases

Google TV has a Shop tab where you can buy or rent movies or TV shows. Purchases will be stored in your library where you can even download them to be able to watch offline.

The best part is that you can watch them on any device – phone, tablet, computer, or TV.

  1. Make your phone a remote

Google TV has a built-in remote so you can control your Android TV. This adds more convenience for typing in a movie name or password by integrating your phone’s keyboard. So, don’t worry if you cannot find your TV remote.

Step 2: Select the streaming services you have currently subscribed to so it can give you recommendations for titles available there.

Step 3: To browse movie titles, go to the For You section. It will have top picks for you across various genres and your streaming services.

Step 4: Tap on the title you want to watch. You can either watch it on the OTT platform it is available or buy/rent to watch here.

Step 5: Tap on More Services and you will have the option to buy or rent your movie. A purchased movie lasts forever and a rented movie is available for 30 days or 48 hours after you have started watching it, whichever comes first.
